Bed Making for Brassicas

A week ago we made up the brassica bed - but I forgot to bring the camera. Today I was pleased to see that it wasn't a figment of my imagination:

Brassica Patch
Beneath the membrane the soil has been enriched with manure and fertilized.

Here's how it looked two weeks ago:

I call that a result  - and that's without having planted anything yet!

I celebrated by weeding the alliums. The next patch requiring attention is the soft fruit.  The strawberries are flowering and there are gooseberries and currants on the way.  As yet no net.

  1. What we need now is a fabric that doesn't fray at all. We are in the second year using some of ours but how long will it last.

  2. A good reminder that our redcurrants need sorting out so that they can be netted. Like the brassica bed - has a familiar look to it.

  3. Yes, I have to admit, that is an amazing transformation - as long as you haven't just covered the weeds with some membrane! :-)

I'm beginning to think about nets too, because I have Blueberries that are setting fruit, as well as flowering Strawberries. Veg-growing is a constant battle!
