Sweet

After my last post I thought I should check on the sweetcorn. Variety: Earlibird

Guess what - It is ready for harvesting.  Described by James Wong as "10 times more sugary than conventional sweet corn, super early and hugely productive."  For once I have to agree. This is the one for growing in Scotland. The only downside is they only produced one cob per plant. Not what I would call hugely productive...

...but worth it for the flavour!

    1. Oops! Schoolboy error - It is Earlibird and I will now add that to the post.

  2. Sweetcorn does take a lot of space for what it produces especially compared with lots of other crops but good to have all the same.

    1. Yes it does take up space, but it slots in nicely with the cucurbits in my rotation so I don't begrudge it.

  3. We've grown Earlibird this year too but it's not been the best crop we've ever had despite it getting copious amounts of water through summer.

    1. That must be annoying, especially in a hot dry year! I have visions of Cary Grant hiding in the cornfield from the crop duster plane in North By Northwest!

  4. Once you have tasted the super-sweet corns such as Earlybird you never go back Mal!

    1. Just as you say, Roger. Just hope the growing conditions are as good in future.
