Vegetable and Fruit Growing on an Allotment in Edinburgh

Let's Go!
Beans awaiting release!
The weatherman advises that the risk of frost is past! It's time to release those cramped plants from their night time confinement in the greenhouse. 20 cucurbits went off to the school garden today. More to the allotment over the weekend. Time to sow the sweetcorn. Time to reconfigure the greenhouse shelves for tomatoes and peppers and cucumber. Also the last impediment to direct sowing has been removed.
Cucurbits for the Allotment
Dwarf French Beans and Italian Climbers (Barlotti)
Peas and leeks at the ready
Brassica seedlings
A selection of flower seedlings itching to be released!
The song should be "Happy Days Are Here Again" but I have gone for something more contemporary:
You still keeping the school garden going then. I think your school holidays are before ours aren’t they. Do you think they will open soon or are you working with key workers’ children?

Hi Sue, Yes we are a week or two ahead of English (and Welsh) schools. I am keeping the school garden ticking over with the tacit agreement of the school. It is a bit basic: A row of potatoes, a row of curcubits, some soft fruit and some flowers. C'est la vie!
Very jealous of your greenhouse, that might have to be next year's job as the plastic upright we brought with us from our old terraced house got blown over this spring and has finally given up the ghost! Any tips for a new greenhouse buyer?
Thanks for commenting DQ. Been there with the plastic models. My greenhouse experience was dictated by the space I had to play with. It made the search much easier once I knew the dimensions.
What a happy post! Are your schools open? Very good song.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked the music Jane. Scottish schools are open, but only online!
