Fruit and Legumes

Having been away for the weekend it was a case of reacquainting myself with the state of play at the plot.  Soft fruit is now cropping heavily.

Legumes are on their way but needed support and weeding.  Potatoes second early potatoes are flowering and it is time to start on the earlies.  (The single Jerusalem artichoke, in the corner, is the odd one out here. I have decided to treat this as a perennial rather than moving it around with the rotation).  The runner beans are shooting up the poles, higher and higher.

  1. What a nice homey looking plot. I see you use bamboo poles like I do. They are so useful. Do you eat gooseberries raw or do they have to be cooked?

  2. We cook them, Jane, although one or two get eaten raw when we are testing how ready they are for picking. Bamboo is the trusty fall back (not having a handy hazel to pollard).

  3. Ooh, raw gooseberries, the thought makes my teeth ache 😖

  4. Still waiting for our runners to decide to climb the poles but like you we've lots of soft fruit to pick. We use our gooseberries like you although we have a red desert variety that's okay to eat raw.
